The Story Of Amazing Outdoor Shots (Part 1)

It really was a glorious day and I was getting ready to go on a whale watching cruise. The whale watching boat was to leave from this harbor where I was waiting to be collected.

For those of you who don't know this harbor, it is called Hermanus New Harbor and it is situated in a little town called Hermanus. This town is in the most beautiful city on earth called Cape Town. Cape Town is in an amazing country called South Africa, which is on the southern tip of Africa. I, myself the photographer of "The Story Of Amazing Outdoor Shots", live in this little town. So now that you know a little more about me as the photographer, let's talk more about the images that I capture.

The image called "Perfect Harbor Image" is just that, a perfect harbor image. So, as I was saying you can see according to the pictures, it was a beautiful day and as I was walking in the harbor, I spotted these boats all laying at different areas in the harbor. I looked at the mountains in the background, the still water and the awesome day with the blue sky. You can see in the image how calm the ocean really was that day. Everything looked so perfect and I couldn't resist capturing this photo. This image to me is real photography art.

My settings on this image "Perfect Harbor Image" were -

F-stop: f/11
Shutter Speed: 1/125 sec
ISO: 200
Width: 4288 pix
Height: 2848 pix
Subject distance: 126 m
Focal length: 18 mm

Anyway back to the story. I got my camera ready and did all the necessary settings on it. I then took the shot, the first shot that I took came out like this. Most professional photographers usually do their best to make their first attempt the best one as they know their cameras quite well and they also know that the first shot could be their one and only. Knowing this, I make sure to implement this strategy with every shot I take.

While in the harbor waiting for the opportunity to go on the whale watching cruise with one of the boats in the harbor, I was walking to the other side of the harbor where the boat would dock. I saw two people standing and enjoying the peace and tranquility of the ocean, the view and the various activities happening in the harbor such as fishing, whale watching and diving.

My settings in this image "Boat In The Harbor" were -

F-stop: f/11
Shutter Speed: 1/125 sec
ISO: 200
Width: 3977 pix
Height: 2848 pix
Subject distance: 23.7 m
Focal Length: 50 mm

Once again preparing my camera I positioned myself and took a snap shot of the people, the mountains, and the boat. The effect I want in the image will determine the settings I choose and sometimes I don't change anything depending on the light, subject, weather and composition. What a great picture this one turned out to be with great composition, telling a great story. I call this shot, "Boat In The Harbor".

The image titled "Cruising On A Whale Boat" I took while standing at the docking station of the whale watching boat. By this time I was more than ready to jump on the boat as I had been waiting for quite some time for this exciting moment. This was my first time going on a whale watching boat and as a photographer it was a great opportunity. As the boat arrived in the harbor I took a quick shot of the boat as it turned and headed straight toward myself and the rest of the whale watching group.
